Special Mentoring Session: GI Dysfunction

Overview

In continuing my efforts to mentor practitioners who wish to learn how to incorporate manual therapy into the treatment of patients with complicated medical histories, I would like to invite you another small group session.

In this session, we will be evaluating and treating a 24 year old woman who is having significant GI Dysfunction, a history of concussion and headaches, and a likely active Lyme infection for which she could not receive antibiotic treatment as it made the GI symptoms unmanageable. I have already treated many of the biomechanical dysfunctions that were initially present so I expect that this session will be focusing on treating visceral dysfunctions, restoring autonomic nervous system balance, and enhancing lymphatic drainage via Chapman’s neurolymphatic reflexes.

The schedule for this 3-hour session will be:

1. 4-7 days prior: I will email a slide presentation that includes the pathophysiology of the GI tract, concussion, and Lyme disease; the patient’s medical history; and treatment expectations. Appropriate journal articles will be attached.
2. 9-10am: Discussion of the material, answer any questions, and prepare for the treatment.
3. 10am-11:30am: Patient evaluation and treatment. My expectation is that everyone will have multiple opportunities to feel what is going on under my hands using a hands-on-hands approach where your hands would be on the patient and my hands would be on top of yours.
4. 11:30am-12pm: Review the session and answer any remaining questions.
