Overview
This class will discuss the mechanical function of all portions of the lower extremity in normal conditions and in dysfunction. Anatomy, biomechanics, embryology, circulation, and neurology of the associated structures will be discussed. Particular attention will be given to how somatic dysfunctions in the different portions of the lower extremity can lead to common lower extremity conditions in the clinic, including plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel, Achilles tendinitis, compartment syndrome, patellar tendinitis, ITB syndrome, trochanteric bursitis, and femoroacetabular impingement. During extensive hands-on lab time, assessment and application of various treatment techniques – including Muscle Energy, Functional Technique, and Myofascial Release – will be demonstrated and practiced.
