During our recent session – An Integrated Approach to Treatment of the Thorax – Biomechanical, Visceral, and Autonomic Concepts, we took an in-depth look at multiple ways to treat dysfunctions in the thorax, including biomechanical, visceral, and autonomic approaches.

This class, held at our new location in the Kennedy Krieger Institute International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at White Marsh on October 5-6, 2024,  reviewed the anatomy of the thorax, the functional relationship between all the different structures located in it, and how somatic dysfunctions affect thoracic physiology. We also discussed at length the clinical decision making process and how to use layer palpation to decide which treatment approach might be the most appropriate for various thoracic conditions.

Participants learned and practiced a thorough series of scan tests that examined all parts of the thorax, including the musculoskeletal and fascial systems, autonomic nervous system, and specific areas of lymphatic congestion.  Treatment techniques learned included muscle energy, functional technique, fascial release, autonomic nervous system balancing, and Chapman’s neurolymphatic reflexes.

We look forward to our next class on December 7-8, 2024, A Segmental Review of the Spine – Part 3 (L3-Coccyx).
